Conference Feedback
The IATUR 2011 conference had 189 delegates from 39 countries. There were 48 students and 18 delegates from a developing or transitional economy. 15 delegates in addition to the 189 were planning to attend but withdrew in the last month. Pre-conference events were held 30-31 July, including a Time Use in Developing Countries Workshop, and the main conference ran from 1-3 August. There was one workshop held post-conference on 4 August on effective use of the Multinational Time Use Study. In total, 161 papers were presented over the three main conference days. The sessions took place in the Manor Road Building of Oxford University and many delegates were housed at St Catherine’s College, where the conference meals were held.
Some feedback after the event:
"The conference was superbly organised, friendly and stimulating -congratulations!"
"I thought the conference was very well organised and the venue for the sessions and the meals were great. In particular the seating arrangements of the table at the meals facilitated great exchanges and mingling. There was a very positive and open atmosphere and the committee were extremely welcoming. Thank you very much."
"This was definitely one on the nicest conferences that I have attended and it won't be the last IATUR conference that I'll (try to) attend."
"IATUR 2011 was one of the best organized conferences I've attended recently. Everything from pre-conference communication to on-site assistance was outstanding, as was the food at the banquet. Thanks for your superlative work!"
"Thank you for the organization and attitude of sharing all information and databases."
Filming
CTUR and IATUR hope to make elements of this conference available on-line to reach out to wider audiences and make our research more visible. We will be filming a few presentations during the conference and editing these down to post on YouTube. The presenters have agreed and signed consent forms. We will not post audio footage of other people without their permission. We hope that you will feel able to ask a question or make a comment in any discussion sections, even if you do not want to appear on film. If you wish to comment, please say who you are and where you are from before you ask your question for the benefit of the audience and the speakers. If we seek to include your question or comment in the video, we will ask your permission. Anyone who does not want to appear in the video should contact our conference organiser, Sarah Forrest. We cannot guarantee that we can remove images of people in crowd shots, but we will not include close-up shots or films of speech of anyone who does not wish to appear on the film. You are fully entitled to choose to not be filmed, and we hope that you will feel no pressure to consent to filming if you are in any way uncomfortable.
Recycling
In an effort to keep this conference as green as possible, could you please recycle your water bottles in the bins provided outside the lecture theatre, and hand in your name tags where possible at the end of your stay to the registration table.
Safety
Although in general Oxford is a safe city, there have been a few isolated incidents late at night in the wider area where the conference is being held. If you are not staying at St Catherine’s, please do be wise about walking back to your accommodation late at night. Do feel free to contact us about any questions you have in this regard.
Schedule
As you can tell from the conference programme, we are on a tight schedule! In order to help us keep the conference running smoothly, we ask that you kindly try to move swiftly between sessions and especially to meals, as St Catherine’s College where our meals are held is quite firm about timeliness. Many thanks for your cooperation.
Contact
Do feel free to contact the conference organisers during the event with any questions. There should be someone in or near the Manor Road Building lobby for the majority of each day.
